Women and their children often move to temporary accommodation when they leave the refuge. But these places don't often feel like home. We want to be able to provide each family that leaves our refuge with some of the basics that make life that little bit easier. Unfortunately, domestic abuse doesn't just leave physical scars. Ongoing specialist support, provided by our outreach team, is vital to the emotional and mental recovery of women and their children.
Women and their children fleeing domestic abuse sometimes arrive at our refuge with nothing but the clothes they are standing in. For the 6 months that they stay with us they are able to use the facilities of the refuge. When they leave to start their new lives they have no belongings to enable them to do this.
This project could enable us to be able to buy the families the basic things such as beds, wardrobe, cooker and fridge.
With the right tools in place these families can begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
