Our project will set up a mobile clinic to provide primary healthcare support to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and also to help them in getting advance services when needed through developing a network with advanced healthcare hospitals in the mainland. It should be noted here that Rohingya refugees are taking shelter in different places. They are not allowed to travel in the main land freely. Therefore, a mobile clinic may provide necessary primary healthcare support effectively.
Rohingya lives in Rakhine State of Myanmar for centuries who were stripped of their citizenship in 1982 that made them stateless, and now they are subjected to violent repression at the hands of govt. forces, Buddhist extremists, and Rakhine ethnic group. UNHCR estimates that 270000 refugees have entered in Bangladesh this time. About 230000 Rohingya are living in the country for decades. It is difficult to provide necessary healthcare support to those huge refugees by our government only.
To set up permanent healthcare facilities in each of the camp to provide healthcare services would be very costly, because they are living in many different camps spread out over two districts. The camps are yet to be set up. Now many are living on the roadside, forest or on private agricultural land. Mobile clinic can play better role and requires low investment. Mobile clinic can reach any camp/places when there is any urgency, within a short time.
This mobile clinic can provide proper basic healthcare support costeffectively for years as and when necessary. It can impact positively on the everyday lives of the refugees by reducing death rate in the camp.Due to the low quality of the shelter in the camp, lacking of proper sanitation and food these refugees will suffer from different types of diseases like, diarrhoea, dycentry, etc. Thus, the propsed mobile clinic can significantly contribute to the distressed humanity as well.
