About one million Rohingya have taken shelter in camps in Bangladesh. They are driven away from their ancestral home in a planned way. They lived in Rakhine State of Myanmar for centuries. Now everybody acknowledged that they have been the victim of a genocide carried out by the Myanmar govt. forces, Buddhist extremists, and Rakhine ethnic group, and it will not be easy to back their country again. Majority of the refugees are women and children (70%) who are the victim of violent repression.
Nobody can solve the problem of the Rohingya refugee women. Nobody can give them back their dear ones who are killed in front of them. There is no way to delete the awful memory of physical torture they faced. But we can soften there sufferings through empowering psycho-social resilience of them what Nowzuwan is doing now only for 564 women, whereas, there are thousand of women who need similar type of support. Therefore, expansion of this project is an urgent solution to this issue.
Definitely, this program will have very positive and long term impacts on the lives of the Rohingya refugee women, particularly who are still traumatized. Empowering psycho-social resilience is very important for them as they seen to kill their dear ones in their eyes, become the victims of physical torture, social discrimination, and above all now facing uncertainty in their lives. This program can bring back new hope in their lives and ability to fight for it.
