Terrifying Cyclone Mora smashed the coastal belts in Bangladesh on May 30 2017. This project plans to execute a rehabilitation program for the victims of the cyclone, particularly for Cox's Bazar District, through (re)building their broken or damaged houses, re-sinking their tube-wells, deep tube-wells, repairing school houses, healthcare facilities, community places and roads, and to provide financial support to re-start their economic activities for livelihood.
Bangladesh is routinely hit by deadly cyclones/ storms/ tidal surges. Cyclone Mora is the latest example that has smashed 16 coastal and 2 hill districts. Of them Cox's Bazar faced the biggest loss. It claimed 9 lives and missing 22 people. More than 20000 houses have been damaged here. The other property losses are yet to be calculated. Precaution measures reduced the loss of human lives but the property-loss is huge. The poor victims are not able to cover up the loss without outside help.
The project will solve the problem through rehabilitating the poor victims by providing shelter, clean water, sanitation, health care facilities, and to re-start economic activities. To do that the project will repair damaged houses or rebuild those that are broken, sink/re-sink tube wells, repair sanitary latrine and community healthcare facility. It will provide financial support in case of advanced treatment needed by any of the victims and financial support to start economic activities.
This project will help to construct 100 new houses with concrete foundation and high plinth, repair 500 houses adding strong foundation so that those can face the storms in future. These houses will save their wealth and play a crucial role to face the future calamities without any loss. Access to clean water and sanitation will reduce the healthcare expenditure of the families. Therefore, the victims will be able to restart the economic activities they were involved with earlier.
