With your support, we will provide safety to transgender individuals by employing them at our public restroom, keeping them from dangerous sex work. Transgender individuals will access a public service with dignity, free from harassment. Our bathroom project in the busy Tambaram Bus Station in Chennai will provide autonomy and a means of self-reliance for the transgender community. With this independence, the transgender community will be in a better position to advocate for their rights.
Trapped in a cycle of poverty due to LGBTQ stigma and discrimination, it is nearly impossible for transgender individuals to find employment. With few options to support themselves, many are forced to take up dangerous sex work. This work makes the transgender community vulnerable to physical abuse, sexual violence, and HIV. We want to help the transgender community become independent by providing stable and safe employment options while providing a much needed service for the community
With your help, the transgender community will become self-sufficient and financially independent. Our bathroom in Chennai will provide a safe employment option for local transgender individuals allowing them to be more self-reliant. It will also provide a public restroom that the transgender community can use without fear of harassment or discrimination.
We want the transgender community in Chennai to be more prepared to advocate for their rights. Our bathroom project will provide autonomy and a means of self-reliance for the transgender community. This is the first of many sustainable initiatives our Paneer HIV+ Women's Network will organize to end the cycle of poverty for the transgender community in India.
