YachtAid Global Sulawesi relief report update two

By Zoran Selakovic | Director of operations

Since our last report, we're pleased to update you that we've now shipped clean water filters to those in need. The filters came via Singapore to Indonesia where, after the long process to be cleared through Customs, they were loaded and shipped to Palu on the island of Sulawesi.

The filters arrived in late February and our team were thrilled to see fresh water being supplied! While in the region our partners were also checking the salinity of freshwater in case seawater had breached any supplies.

---

After a devastating earthquake and resultant tsunami in Sulawesi, Indonesia, we received reports of 62,659 people displaced, 66,926 houses damaged and 67,335 families affected. They were horrifying statistics and we worked with our partners to bring particular focus to returning children to school and families to normalcy.

To acchieve this, we partnered with World Hope International and a local established NGO, Yayasan Kasih Yang Utama within Sulawesi. These partnerships helped us maximize the impact of the donation by providing filters for clean water access across schools and communities to support schools in resuming their programs and teaching activities.

Clean water is a basic element for improving the health of the children and the general Sulawesi population so it made sense for us to focus on this aspect - without clean water it's not possible to pursue other steps in the recovery like resuming regular school attendance.

We have water filters scheduled to arrive on January 14th and be distributed in the following days and will share pictures and stories of their implementation in the follow-up update.
