Shamwari Yemwanasikana will raise community awareness through information on wheels to fight against the violation of women and girls' rights at water collection points. Our rapid strategy is to buy branded bicycles for male champions who will be moving around water collection points in the District and give information on Violence Against Women and Girls at water points. This project promotes positive masculinity; hence we intend to have men create safe cities
Due to climate change, Zimbabwe received erratic rains last year which resulted in the major water sources drying up earlier than expected. Backyard boreholes, which served as alternative water sources also dried up earlier. The scarcity of water has resulted in women and girls having their rights violated at the few remaining water collection points by self - appointed rowdy borehole marshals. Women and girls are no longer safe at these points as they are being abused by men at the boreholes
Creating male champions who will fight in the protection of violence against women and girls at water collection points. We intend to purchase bicycles that we brand with information about women and girls' rights and how they are being violated at the water collection points. At the same time, the champions will disseminate information with solutions addressing these challenges and create a gender sensitive and safe environment for women and girls.
Reduction of violence against women and girls in the public spaces. Through this project, there should be an increase in men and boys who speak out against violence against women and girls, the communities will organize themselves and actively report as well as follow up on cases on violence against women and girls and rights violations. There will be establishment of effective, functional groups getting together in denouncing violence against women and girls' rights violations.
