A couple of years ago we acquired a piece of land in a peaceful village by the sea, Little Bassa (one-hour drive from Monrovia). The purpose for buying the land was to construct a house with 20 rooms to host former child soldiers. The land was cleared of trees, the house and a water well were constructed and, as of this summer, we have electricity!
There have been challenges with the cassava cultivation because of transportation, and IDEFOCS decided to pivot towards building a mill and processing the cassava into flour, fufu and other final products that are easier to store and transport. However, the mill building project has failed due to lack of funds. As a result, there are only 4 people living in the house right now and the work has stopped.
Our main focus right now is filling up the rooms and helping more and more former child soldiers move out of the ghetto and being reintegrated in society!
