The palm kernel producers (women) at Kwesimintsim still do not have enough funds to buy the land they identified and as result the owner of the land sold it to a client who was ready with the money. Currently, the land lord at their site is building a fence around the property and once it is complete the women will be evicted.
Due to the development, a lot of the women have become discouraged by this and have stopped processing palm kernel oil all together and just stay in their houses. Only a few are still working but producing at 20% capacity and this has seriously affected their income in particular and their standard of living in general. Their children are no longer regular at school because their mothers find it difficult to afford all their school needs.
DQF is encouraging those who are no longer doing the production, due to the situation, not to stop production entirely because it could worsen their financial situations
