The dogs in Northern Uganda need our help. Without The BIG FIX Dog Hospital, there would be no place for them to receive free treatment for wounds and injuries, receive chemotherapy for cancerous tumors, be spayed/neutered, or be hospitalized for parvo or other life-threatening illnesses. The BIG FIX hospital is the only veterinary hospital in Northern Uganda, a region home to more than 2 million people. $3,500 provides for staff and supplies to keep our hospital open for one month, 7 days/wk
Twenty years of war in Northern Uganda resulted in internal displacement of more than 1,000,000 people and a lack of veterinary services in the region. The result caused dog and and cat over population and the spread of diseases and suffering. Due to poverty and the lack of services, most companion animals had no access to veterinary care and died from simple treatable conditions.
The BIG FIX Uganda operates the only veterinary hospital in the region, open 7 days a week. This project provides funding the run the dog hospital with our staff of 7 full time employees and 1 part time employee. We provide emergency care, hospitalization, treatment of infectious diseases, vaccinations, de-worming, treatment of wounds and injuries, treatment of simple fractures, chemotherapy for cancer cases, and other surgeries and treatments as needed.
The presence of the dog hospital will improve the health and well-being of all dogs in the region. Each year, we treat approximately 10,000 dogs and cats.
