Nepal 2024 Medical Mission Report

By Dr. Ali Khosroabadi | 2024 Nepal Medical Team Leader

2024 Nepal Medical Team with many friends
Greetings,
Namaste!
Thank you all for your support of our Healing the Children 2024 Nepal Medical Mission.
This year marked another significant and successful medical mission to Nepal, organized by our dedicated team. Our annual journey focuses on providing specialized medical care to underserved communities, and this year was particularly special due to the participation of a distinguished mentor.
Our team was comprised of highly skilled professionals, including:
- Dr. John Herzenberg, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon and mentor
- One Nurse
- One Anesthesiologist
- Myself, a Foot and Ankle Surgeon
- One Registered Nurse (RN)
- Medical Students
- My wife, volunteering in various capacities
Upon arrival, we hit the ground running with a triage session that saw over 110 patients on the first day. From this group, we identified 28 critical cases that required immediate surgical intervention. Over the course of five days, utilizing two operating rooms, we completed all planned procedures, providing relief and much-needed medical attention to the patients.
This year was particularly momentous as we were joined by my mentor and fellowship director from 17 years ago, Dr. John Herzenberg. His presence was not only a great honor but also an immense inspiration to the team and the patients. Dr. Herzenberg’s expertise in pediatric orthopedics and his global reputation brought additional depth and perspective to our mission.
Thanks to the generous contributions of our supporters, we raised approximately $40,000 (through several fundraising platforms) prior to the trip. These funds were crucial in covering medical supplies, logistical expenses, and other critical resources needed to execute the mission successfully.
The impact of our annual trip extends beyond the immediate medical care provided. It strengthens the bond between our team and the communities we serve, and fosters an environment of learning and exchange between all participants, including the medical students and local healthcare workers. The experience was profoundly enriching, underscoring the importance of global health initiatives and the positive changes they can bring to communities in need.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and team members who made this trip possible. Special thanks to Dr. John Herzenberg for his invaluable contribution and mentorship, which greatly enhanced the mission’s success. We look forward to continuing our efforts and hope to expand our reach in the coming years.
