The hearts of Oko, Fay, Kir and Vin are beating a lot healthier and happier after undergoing successful heart surgeries in October and November. During the month of October surgeons at Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai India performed corrective surgery on Oko while surgeons at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet Kenya performed surgeries on Fay and Kir. Additionally, Vin was the beneficiary of successful heart surgery at the Dell Children’s Medical Center, Austin TX USA in November.
All four (4) children are doing exceedingly well with very bright smiles.
Fifty-four (54) other children and families got much needed help during this quarter as shown below:

CAC and THAP continue to forge ahead with increased services for children and families in Kenya. Partnerships and support from benefactors which play a crucial role in this endeavor are constantly being strengthened. The months of July to September brought gifts of promise and joy to several of Take Heart Association Project (THAP) patients and families. Six patients received pre-tests and evaluations and are now scheduled to have corrective heart surgeries starting in October at Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai India; Tenwek Hospital in Bomet Kenya and Dell Children’s Medical Center, Austin TX. Duncun Njoroge had successful corrective heart surgery at Mater Hospital, Kenya on September 30, 2013. He is recovering well.
A further forty-five other children and families were assisted by THAP during July to September as follows:

Review – 6, Accommodation at THAP Family Support Center – 20

The months of April to June were busy for Take Heart Association Project (THAP) patients and families. Samantha Muthoni Njoroge received corrective heart surgery at Mater Hospital, Kenya in mid May. Vivian Njoki Nganga, accompanied by her mother traveled from Kenya to India. Vivian received corrective heart surgery at Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai India in late May. Both surgeries were successful and these patients are continuing the recovery process. Three other patients are scheduled to depart shortly for India to receive corrective surgeries.

After months of tests and probes, March 6, 2013 was a special day for Francis as he finally had corrective heart surgery at the Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery in Khartoum, Sudan. Withstanding the brutal 120 degrees temperature and accompanied by his grandmother and Peter Mbogo Kamau, Executive Director of Take Heart Association Project (THAP), Francis traveled from Kenya to Sudan and was placed in the care of competent doctors who performed the successful surgery. He returned to Kenya on March 30, 2013 and continues his recovery.

Presently, two patients are preparing to go to India for their surgeries.

A tremendous holiday gift was received from Robbie Schaefer of OneVoice. The team held a special LaLaLove Fundraiser for Take Heart Association Project children on December 2, 2012. The event was very successful and all proceeds will be used to sponsor heart surgeries for children on the waitlist.
As THAP continues to grow with new services, partners and expanded network, your continued support is most appreciated. We look forward to greater achievements in 2013 through the heart program and Family Support Center.
