The project would create livelihood opportunities for 100 poorest rural women whose family income is less than US$1. They work in unorganized sectors like brick-kilns and hazardous plastic industries in cities and suburbs. Most of them suffer from acute anemia and malnutrition. Challenge

Rural women of India lack education and self-reliance. They depend on the menfolks who take advantages of their helplessness and abuse them. Frequent child birth and oppression make them more vulnerable. Lack of income in the hands of the rural women is the primary reason for their vulnerability. They suffer from anemia and deadly diseases that they can not express to others due to fear of atrocities and further neglect. Early marriage and teen pregnancies have eaten up their physical strengths.

Solution

The project would encourage the rural women to form their Self Help Groups (SHGs) and provide visioning capacity for a better future. The SHGs would learn about small savings and its utilities to create livelihood opportunities comprising of agriculture to animal husbandry and petty businesses. They would be taught business management skills in simple manners. When the SHGs grow up, they would be tied up with nationalized banks for leveraging larger credit to scale up their businesses.

Long-Term Impact

As a result of this project, 100 women would get earning opportunity by transforming their lives from objects to subjects. Income in the hands of women would ensure more food and quality health care for children, savings for her secured future and increased decision-making capacity. A sense of respect for the women would be established in the community. Widespread poverty in rural areas would be eradicated through the women's SHGs. Rural women would be the primary movers in the society.
