Students at one of the private schools
Thank you so much for your support of our project to provide scholarships to Afghan students at a number of different levels! During the holiday season, GlobalGiving donors like you generously funded more than 30 scholarships for students to attend private schools in Afghanistan! The response during the holiday was amazing, and we are all so thankful to you.
We wanted to take a moment and share the stories of some of the students that you are helping. Students like Fariba, a 14 year old girl studying in the 8th grade. She says:
I have faced many problems that have prevented me from getting an education. My father was a driver, but two years ago he was in an accident and was injured, leaving him unable to work. My mother is a tailor and sells the clothing she makes to our neighbors. She also teaches a sewing class, but these do not earn enough money for her to support our family and pay for me to attend school. This scholarship is helping me reach my goals. I want to attend a university and get a job. I would like to support my family. My parents have done their best for me, and I’d like to repay them for their kindness. I’d also like to be able to help the other girls in my village. I thank the people who made my scholarship possible. Without their kindness, I wouldn’t be able to reach my goals.
We’d also like to share the story of Marian, a 12 year old girl in the 4th grade.
I began studying at this school two years ago. Before then I was at another school, but it was not as good as this one. This school has so many of the best things, and I am so happy to be studying here. I like all of my dear teachers, we have clean and nice classrooms, and I study with classmates who are kind and good. I am so happy to be here, and one day I hope to use my education to help make Afghanistan a better place. I would like to continue my education and become a doctor. I know that this great school has had a positive impact on my life. Thank you for giving me the chance to study here.
School in Afghanistan is set to begin at the end of March. Our Afghan partners are currently working to identify students in need of scholarships, and as soon as we have information about the new students that you are supporting, we will pass it along to you.
