This project aims to improve the educational outcomes of children in foster care from Rulindo,Northern Province of Rwanda, through the provision of a wide range of educational supports and resources including one to one tuition and provision of noon nutritious meal to support a child learning and personal growth. This also includes the funding of extra curriculum and holistic development such as music lessons, sports, coaching as well as providing the necessary learning materials.
Nearly all children who are in foster care have some school problems. such children have a consistently lower level of academic achievement than other children. They are much less likely than other children to obtain GCSEs and A levels, or to go on to further education. This may relate to disturbed attachment behavior and feeling anxious about relationships and a lack of support. However, these causes of difficulty at school are less deep rooted and therefore more amenable to positive change.
HELP A CHILD INITIATIVE education program is a foundation for lifelong success and reading proficiency. To this end, we hired a caseworker and private high-schools liaison to make sure they are attending school and are being assessed to determine current achievement levels. We provide them free educational tuition and expenses, noon nutritious meal, a wide range of learning materials with private tutoring services to consistently raising holistic perspective and level of academic achievements.
This project provides quality education to 25 fostered children every year. Of these children in receipt of tuition and educational support from this project stay and do not fail in school or later in life. More than twice as many gain five or more A+-C grades compared to the general looked after child population. They are academically proud and brilliant until graduation which will allow them to lead purposeful lives, become self-sufficient adults and contributing members of the society.
