The population in northern Mozambique is dependent on humanitarian aid due to natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing conflicts. The armed clashes between Islamists and state security forces have been coming to a head for months, forcing almost 330,000 people to flee their homes in Cabo Delgado province. They remain in camps under the most difficult conditions, and aid is only partially reaching them.
"The families all told me the same thing: Their villages were attacked, so they had to flee. Now they are left without supplies, without shelter and with little or no food. Some families collect wild fruits, tubers and plants to eat," said David, Country office manager of a member of the German alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
The effects of the corona pandemic and limited access in large parts of the region due to the tense security situation make it almost impossible to provide comprehensive care.
The German alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft, is examining how it can fulfill the most basic needs of the people in the province of Cabo Delgado.
