In Kenya the adoption of Free Primary Education by the government in 2003, education related problems still persist approximately one million school going age children are out of school. This is due to numerous hidden costs such as school uniforms expenses, enrolment fees, examination fees, stationery and library expenses, development levies, tuition levies and auxiliary staff wages and salaries. This has not made it easier especially for children who have lost one of both parents due to HIV.
A total of 2000 children are going to be retained and reintegrated/enrolled in schools in Kisumu County. 200 parents are going to be sensitized from the target areas. It is envisaged that more than 700 children in the target area shall benefit both directly and 1,200 indirectly from the activities of the programme. The target age group shall be children of age 6 -18 years old. Both boys and girls shall be reached without discrimination of disability and ethnicity.
This project will help in capacity building and advocacy of parents, local administration, opinion leaders on children rights and the policies, the community will value education and cooperate to send children to school and not risky and meager works for meager earnings. Child involvement and facilitating them to attend school will be emphasized to focus for future need to enhance programs that will build capacity of the ones who can't go back to school through vocational skill building
This project will improve the children sector and be involved in national policy reform, review monitoring implementation of the child-related international instrument localy. Child Participation and coordination the participation of children in local, national and event, to ensure children are considered and the local Child Network that is aimed at strengthening child protection 8 hundred children will benefit directly with more that 1200 benefiting indirectly as a results of spill over effort
