Rok Kern is a project of Children In Families. We launched an educational online learning platform to offer locals the opportunities to learn more about the current state of the caring systems around the globe, including government agencies and organizational partners shifting their focus to family-based care advocates. Helping educate locals is launching to provide opportunities for the locals to learn more about the harms of institutional care for vulnerable children and alternative care.
There are more than 3 thousand children in Cambodia experiencing orphanhood due to the loss of a family member, parents, relative, or caregiver to Covid-19__from January 2021 to March 2022, according to the Ministry of Health. This has been a concern for those vulnerable children that are likely to place in residential care due to poverty, the economic crisis of the family, and the loss of caregivers.
Rok kern would like to extend its learning and awareness-raising locally with students, NGOs, and stakeholders. To help them learn the importance of family-based care and prevent family separation in the first place through Rok Kern Academy Online Learning Hub, training, and advocacy support. These strategies are working alongside the other projects of Children IN Families such as Foster Care, Adoption, Kinship Care, Reintegration Team, and OSCaR (case management system).
Organizations, Universities student, and stakeholders understand the importance of family-based care in Cambodia. This will help vulnerable children to look for long-term placement and have families of their own through the legal process and the recognition and support from both communities, the legal system, and care reform within the country.
