Meet Ruth, who now keeps Nyaka students healthy!
Meet Ruth, who now keeps Nyaka students healthy!

Girls in Rural Uganda are often told to quit school so they can start a family. Without your support, Ruth believes that at 22, she would “be a mom to many children; rather than one of Nyaka’s amazing nurses. Ruth lost her father at a very young age. She and her five younger siblings were sent to live with their grandmother. While attending Primary One, her grandmother couldn't purchase her books or pay school fees. Her education was going to end before her eighth birthday. Ruth accepted that she would be a housemaid, rather than achieve her dream of being a nurse. However, thanks to your support, everything changed for Ruth when her grandmother discovered a FREE school for orphaned children--your Nyaka Primary School. Ruth was a Pioneer Student, part of Nyaka's first class of students. As a student, Ruth watched nurses care for her ill grandmother. She knew she wanted to become a nurse to serve her community, particularly for sick children. Thanks to the strong education foundation you provided Ruth, she made her dreams a reality. Ruth graduated nursing school! Your compassion not only benefited Ruth, but also allowed her to impact the Nyaka community. Today, Ruth is the nurse at your Nyaka;s Vocational Secondary School. Ruth treats sick students so they can stay in school. She also counsels and provides emotional support for students. This is Ruth's dream job because she can inspire students everyday. Young students gain confidence by seeing how Ruth was a Nyaka student who became a medical professional. Because compassionate people like you invested in Ruth over 10 years ago, she is able to continue to inspire Nyaka's female students every day. Can you imagine what the children you are investing in today will do when they grow up?

Kutamba Primary School Nursery Student

When Abia was a child, she lost her parents to AIDS. Just a child herself, she was suddenly a mother to her younger siblings. They were children living on their own with no money and no hope of going to school.

This was too much for a child to handle on her own. Fortunately, she discovered your Nyaka Primary School. She and her siblings were three of Nyaka’s first students.

Because of the free education you provided for Abia, she was able to work her way through school to earn her teaching certificate. Her siblings are now finishing their education too, so Abia decided to raise four more orphaned children who needed a loving home.

Today, Abia is the nursery teacher at your Kutamba Primary School! Abia was so inspired by your kindness that she has dedicated her life to offering other orphaned children opportunities. Every day when her students see her, they know that being orphaned will not stop them from reaching their dreams. She is an inspiration to every child!

Bruno
Bruno

YOU investing in Bruno's education. He overcame the fate common for orphans in rural Uganda: a life of labor in the fields.

Before joining Nyaka, Bruno’s childhood was scary and lonely. He lost his father at a young age and his mother soon left the family. He wanted to attend school like his friends, but as an orphan, he was too poor to afford the school fees.

Bruno’s life changed forever in 2003. He was one of the first students to attend your Nyaka Primary School.

The students you empower through Nyaka have their education costs covered. They get books, school supplies, school uniforms, and even shoes! Bruno is also especially thankful for the nurture and care he received from Nyaka’s director and sponsors. Since Bruno had his basic needs and emotional support, he was able to focus on his studies.

Bruno’s hard work paid off! He graduated with a certificate in accounting and finance. He was inspired by your support in the Nyaka family, so much so, that he now works at Nyaka! As Nyaka’s Education Coordinator, Bruno works to ensure that current Nyaka students receive a quality education, like the one he received.

Every child you are empowering today has the same chance that Bruno did. We expect to see many of them achieve their dreams too. YOU make this possible.

Thank you for being a champion for children and education!

One of the biggest successes at Nyaka is the chance to defy gender stereotypes that can limit opportunities for your girls. You are teaching your students they can study whatever they want.

Your Girls are Tailoring Their Futures

You’re empowering Miria, Rinah, and Nauma to follow their passion to study tailoring. Even though it’s traditionally a male-dominated field, your girls had the confidence to go after what they wanted, because you remind them every day that they are valued and supported. Naume knows exactly what she wants to do with her degree. She wrote “in the future, I would like to became a business lady dealing in garments. So I will work hard so that I can pass with flying colors.”

Flavia the Engineer

Because of you, girls like Flavia are defying expectations and studying engineering. She says “I took up this course to become a great and trustworthy engineer in a field that is run by men. I see my dreams coming true in the near future.”

Maritina is Building STEAM

You are nurturing amazing potential in your girls in science. You sent your student, Maritina, to a STEAM camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) for girls in Malawi. Afterwards, Maritina won a grant through the camp for her idea to create an intelligent automatic irrigation system. The system monitors the moisture content in soil and then triggers the irrigation water pumps to power on or off depending on the moisture levels. This saves precious water, which is important in a community that has suffered through years of drought. Her idea is already working at NVSS, showing the whole community what girls can do.

You are raising girls in Uganda who will be confident leaders and innovators. Someday, they will create the solutions that will change Uganda and the world.

Thank you for believing in your girls!

Greetings from Uganda! The rains are here which is great for the gardens and farms in the area. Although the roads are beginning to get washed out by the heavy rains and making travel a little more challenging, everyone is doing great!

It’s been a busy 2018 school year and your students are working hard every day to make you proud. Thank you for your love and support to make their educations possible!

Sarah is one of the many students you have helped. She completed her degree in Tourism and Hotel Management, and just started her first job at the Platinum Hotel in Rukungiri. Before joining Nyaka Primary School as a young girl, everything in her life was very complicated after her parents died. Her future was uncertain.

Because of your kindness, she is rejoicing about how her life has turned out and feels privileged to have graduated school and begin a career.

Thank you for the kindness you have shown Sarah and other children like her.

Your donations change children’s lives!
