Sport dans la Ville has built 45 sport pitches in the heart of disadvantaged neighborhoods to make sports activities available and free for all. Through that, Sport dans la Ville imparts the values of self-confidence, teamwork, dedication, leadership, entrepreneurship and hard work leading young people on the path towards a brighter future. More than 6,500 young people aged from 6 to 25 are currently involved in the programs.
Our main challenge is twofold: getting kids from poor suburbs more active and through sport, getting them on the right path towards employment. Sport dans la Ville has developped its own pedagogy accordingly which relies on civic and fair-play values. Despite regularly taking part in sports activities, some Sport dans la Ville participants struggle with healthy eating habits and maintaining a healthy lifestyle off the field or court. Our role is to raise awareness on this matter as well.
Sport dans la Ville organizes sports activities run by 130 coaches (e.g. soccer, basketball, rugby and tennis). Twice a week, around 5.600 young people take part in sport sessions for free. We are convinced that sport is the right lever to transmitt essential values for their professional future: respect, team spirit, politeness and personal committment... As nutrition is a crucial element related to sport, we include workshops with advice and encourage the coaches to raise kids' awareness.
Our overal long-term impact is to improve physical condition of young people and transmitt core values by practicing various sports with profesionnel coaches. These values are meant to be used later for their professional integration. We make them play, learn and succeed. We have already proved the positive impact of our organization: 78% of the parents think that Sport dans la Ville has had an excellent or good influence on their child's development (BVA study, 2018).
