Dear supporters of Doña Rosa,
Since the last report, materials have been identified for the compost toilet, and tentative dates in November 2017 put aside for the construction workshop. Colectivo Talanquera are in regular contact with Doña Rosa, and all is well.
We hope that by the next report we will be able to show pictures, a film, and some amazing stories of transformation which will have taken place in the construction of a more ecological, beautiful and dignified sanitary system in the house of Doña Rosa.
Warm regards from Colombia and Doña Rosa, and we look forward to sending you further new on how this project develops.

"I am very thankful Andres, I like the idea of a toilet that does not contaminate the water of my territory. It will be a good example for my community and all those from the outside who come and visit"
Andres and I have just gotten off the phone with Doña Rosa, the single mother in the Indigenous pueblo of Atánquez who wants to set an example of sustainability in her community. Inspired by the work of the initiative Colectivo Talanquera, who work with sustainability education in various communities in Colombia, Doña Rosa has shared her dream of building an ecological house and garden to improve her humble living conditions, and inspire the people of her community.
Thanks to you, we have been able to raise $1517 towards fulfilling this dream!
We will start this project by building a compost toilet to address the lack of sanitary facilities where Doña Rosa lives. A compost toilet is a symbol of sustainability: it does not use precious water, it can be built with natural materials, and through the action of microorganisms it transforms human waste into manure to improve the soil in the garden (see photo 2). In a town where sewage contaminates the local water supply, and food security is a serious issue, innovative solutions such as compost toilets are needed.
Colectivo Talanquera is now planning a trip to the community of Doña Rosa to begin constructing the compost toilet. It will be built together with Doña Rosa through a workshop with interested members of the town Atánquez, including children and youth, to raise awareness of sustainability through the practical project of the compost toilet.
With an original goal of raising $5000 to complete the house of Doña Rosa, we are still looking to raise another $3500 to complete the other projects on Doña Rosa's house, such as the energy efficient kitchen and an integrated water system. Please help us through spreading the word of this project to your friends and contacts. All donations count!
Warm regards from Colombia and Doña Rosa, and we look forward to sending you further news on how this project develops!
