Friends and Donors,
A twenty-two years old proven Touch-type Read and Spell (TTRS) is highly successful at improving reading, writing, spelling and self esteem of pupils and children of Bonduma village in Buea through the medium of touch-typing in a unique, multi-sensory, dyslexia-friendly way at the Teenage Mothers Institute, Buea. TTRS multi-sensory, dyslexia friendly computer course designed to improve reading, writing and spelling skills through the medium of touch-typing from - https://readandspell.com.
This pilot phase kicked off on March 26th, 2014 and will end on April 29th, 2014. Two instructors were trained to handle the training of the Children at our Teenage Mothers Institute Multi Media Center.
Twenty-seven pupils from Government School – G.S Bonduma I and Government Bilingual Practicing School – GBPS Bonduma) participated. Two hours of learning period each working day of the week (Mondays to Fridays) is a structured program of phonics and aims to develop literacy skills, confidence, self-esteem and motivation of children to read and spell with ease through the internet.
Twenty-seven children from Government School – G.S Bonduma I and Government Bilingual Practicing School – GBPS Bonduma) participated in the pilot phase with the registration of 18 and 9 (27) pupils of classes 4, 5 and 6 respectively. The pupils were very pleased with the program and performed positively as there were 22 pupils who scored a 100% in some Modules of each Level and just one pupil recorded a score of less than 50%, that is 41% at the first Module of Level one. In all, the TTRS program is composed of 24 Levels with each having 30 Modules. Most of the pupils due to the Easter Break completed/ended the program at the third Level while the very slow ones are still in Level one.
Computer skills and internet access are directly related with poverty eradication and social development for the underprivileged, underserved children and their communities.
While Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a compulsory subject in Cameroon, did you know that many children and youth never get the chance to learn basic computer skills through an actual computer?
Our goal is to go mobile on Wheels with laptops and TTRS to reach rural communities. We need to create the learning environment which will enable underprivileged and underserved children connected with our ever-changing, digital world of information.
Quality Education is Children’s Right.
Let support our future leaders with quality education in our communities, we can do it.
