Afghanistan Homeless Football Team became Champion of the World

By Raz Mohammad Dalili | Executive Director

December 1 to December 12 2008 became unforgettable to those who were in the street not longer than three years ago and now are the World Champions in football. As this wasn’t too unexpected by the 8 players who played in the Homeless World Cup, as much of a surprise it is for all Afghan around the world. On December 7, 2008 the Federation Squire of Melbourne turned into Afghan territory since more than 3000 Afghan had come to encourage and support their team in the final match against Russia to bring the Trophy of Homeless World Cup back with them to Afghanistan.

Not least because of the immense and fantastic support the Afghan Homeless boys became the World Champions. The celebration in Federation Squire went on until three hours after the end of the tournament. This victory will be referred to in the history of the World as the first victory of an Afghan team consisting of poor and homeless boys from the street. The people played for Afghanistan will proud of this success all in their lives.

We, the Afghanistan team, thank all who supported us and those who made this incredible victory and success possible. Human is Human, if he or she, will be poor or rich or they will be homeless or orphans. We are need to look at them and work with them, they will be Champaign of the world. Afghanistan team is a good example. Still we need your support for the next phase:
