Earth Day reminds us to do just a little bit more...

Hikers in the Columbia River Gorge

EarthShare and our member charities are preparing to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 22nd, with a long list of great ways for you to get involved.  Of course, the donation you've already made is good -- but you can use your time and talents, too, for volunteer opportunities and educational outings:

  • Friends of Trees is partnering with EarthShare-participating businesses to get their employees out planting trees along I-205 through NE & SE Portland. This long-barren stretch of highway is growing a new forest along the multi-use path frequented by walkers and cyclists, thanks to all the volunteers that are working so hard.
  • Columbia Riverkeeper trains and leads a team of volunteers to act as "eyes and ears" on a part of the Columbia River throughout the year, report pollution, pick up trash, and even take samples of the river water a few times a year.  These volunteers are crucial to protecting the Columbia River for all Oregonians!
  • Friends of the Columbia Gorge is leading hikes, bike rides, and stewardship work parties with the goal of bringing you out to see a new place (and care for these spots) this spring and summer.

All these opportunities and more are always listed at http://earthshare-oregon.org -- all year long, you'll find events, classes, and ways to give your time to any of our EarthShare member charities throughout Oregon.

Thank you for giving through EarthShare -- your gift makes it possible for our 70 member charities to keep people healthy, protect places for wildlife, and reduce global warming, both in Oregon and across the globe.
