The main objective of our proposed project is to advocate for and promote quality hygiene education for every orphaned girl and build clean & safe toilets and promote water & sanitation environment. The project focuses on the development of orphaned girls' life skills to improve hygiene, water and sanitation conditions. The project intervention fully integrated life skills education- focusing on key girls" hygiene behaviors by using participatory teaching techniques & sustainable toilets.
One of the biggest challenges orphaned children face is transitioning to the outside world. The orphaned and abandoned girls aged between 8-16 years are living in our Destitute Home. We believe that these girls' best develop physically and mentally within a loving and supportive healthy & hygienic environment. Therefore, we encourage and support them by providing hygiene education as well as access to toilets facilities. This project will change orphan girls' hygiene behavior.
1st project component, hygiene education meant for girls will be in 75 hours in 6 months. The education sessions on hygiene meaning, personal/ water/food/ hygiene, vaginal hygiene, menstruation, vaginal infections, safe disposal of human excreta. The 2nd component is to construct 2 both rooms and 7 toilets with the sewage treatment method of the septic tank for the benefit of girls' inmates. Bathrooms and Toilets facilities should guarantee privacy, and the girls need to feel secure when using.
After hygiene education ends, are hygiene practices continued in the Destitute Home. The hygiene education and involvement of the inmates of Home from the planning stage ensure that the toilets are constructed properly and they are used properly since it is a basic amenity that is being provided. The advantages of having toilets at Home, the reduction in tension of the users for shifting from open defecation to spot defecation will ensure the sustainability of the project.
