As part of the project to empower the mining families of Amagá and Angelópolis the Coporación Juntos Construyendo Futuro has been developing actions to mitigate child labor.
Mining is on of the main areas of work in the region and is considered by the International Labor Organization among one of the most dangerous works performed by children and youth in Colombia and Latin America. In the occasion of the International Day against the Child Labor we have been executing social interventions in the schools Pascual Correa Flórez and Maní de las Casas. These activities are oriented to raise awareness about the dangerous works that affect their development and the importance of their permanence in the school system.
These activities opened spaces to think over the rights and duties of the children and youth in order to raise awareness about the dangerous jobs in which children and youth are involved. The outcomes were communicated to the community through paintings and posters.
The most outstanding achievements are: acknowledgement by the children and the youth of the dangers of performing activities that put their life and development at risk, identification of the different social activities in which they can engage according to their age, and preventive campaigns designed and executed by the children and youth to raise awareness in the community to support them to go to school instead of to work.
