Right now, there are 30,000 children in small and dark, rural classrooms in Masindi, eager to learn about the world around them. They dream of being accountants, lawyers, nurses, engineers and teachers. But in reality, most of them are in danger of failing to learn to read and write next year, and risk dropping out of school entirely by the age of 12. Their teachers do not have access to the training or resources they need to lead these children to succeed and to complete their education.
30 local teachers are taking action to change this. They have been trained by Redearth Education to become LEADERS of change in schools across their district. They do this on a voluntary basis, with support from the local government, despite the struggles and challenges they face each day. Now we, they need 50,000 to continue their work in 2018, and to train, empower and uplift 300 more teachers. Without it, the education and future success of 30,000 vulnerable children is gravely threatened.
The project will provide 30 teachers with the skills, tools and knowledge to train and support other teachers in other schools right across their district. The more teachers trained in a broad range of teaching and learning practices, the more children in rural schools will receive a high quality education that enables them to succeed and progress into higher levels of education, enabling them to engage in higher paid employment and uplift their families from a life of poverty.
