Challenge

According to World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the second commonest cancer among Nigerian women especially between age 15 and 45 years. Statistics have shown that over 100,000 women die annually in Nigeria from the disease. Further review have also shown that less than 0.1% of our women have had cervical cancer screening in their lifetime and less than 1% is aware of the disease. This project will offer screening to 26,828 women and incorporate it into the Nigerian Healthcare system.

Solution

This project provides Visual Inspection with Acetic acid to high-risk Nigerian women and offers cyrotherapy to cure those with early stage cervical cancer disease. We will train clinical nurses and advocate for incorporation of this service throughout the Nigerian Primary Healthcare system.

Long-Term Impact

The project will offer cervical cancer prevention and cure services to 26,828 women within 2 years in Lagos State and will expand to reach the entire women in Nigeria within 5 years, thus helping to reduce cervical cancer incidence among Nigerian women.
