Project #13166

by Shag Navstrechu, St. Petersburg Public Charity Organization for Disabled Children and Adults
$7,125 Raised
total goal
monthly donors
The project will raise money for medical equipment to help 20 Russian children suffering from cerebral palsy in Pavlovsk orphanage recover motor functions in their upper and lower limbs.

Children with multiple disabilities, both physical and mental, live in Pavlovsk orphanage. 20 of them have cerebral palsy, a serious disease related to dysfunction of motor performance: spasms or high muscle tension, restraint of movement. They need constant intensive physical rehabilitation with the help of special training devices. Most children with cerebral palsy have a high level of mentality and with regular physical exercises can become independent.

Special equipment will recover muscle and joint performance, carry out the required rehabilitation after surgeries, provide balanced training for the body, relaxing muscle spasms and eliminating cramps. The whole muscle system will strengthen. The blood circulation will be restored and the "cold feet" effect will be removed as well as rigidity of joints. Exercises will also improve bladder and bowels function. To sum up, children may recover their physical functions partially or completely.

Long-Term Impact

Our goal is to maximize child potential to develop self-service skills and ability to communicate and live an independent life. Regular exercises boost the physical development. A child learns how to control body movements, eat, dress up and walk without any help. So that as adults they will have a chance to get equal opportunities with other people and not being cut from the world in a special institution for the rest of their lives, which is, unfortunately, a common practice in Russia.
