Summary

RUGARAMA ICT CENTRE was flooded by runoff water from Muhabura volcano and all the equipment and materials were heavily damaged. As result the centre was closed and the beneficiaries have become the prey of juvenile delinquency. The centre was used to train vulnerable rural young people on computer literacy, business management and project planning and management in attempt to enable them have their opportunities. As solution, SPJ is sensitizing and mobilizing the people about environment issues.

Challenge

RUGARAMA ICT CENTER was operational since July 2014. This was the centre wherein rural young people especially the school leavers were trained on computer literacy and Project Management and Business management. It was opened in attempt to help unemployed youth to acquire technical skills that would enable them create their own useful jobs. However, since November 2016 the centre was flooded by the runoff water from Muhabura volcano and destroyed all the computers and their accessories.

Solution

The project will reopen the centre and young people will resume their training. It will also help fight against juvenile delinquency. Besides it will enable local people reaccess public services.

Long-Term Impact

The project will help the community and the beneficiaries in particular to reaccess education (ICT) and acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them have their opportunities.More than 1,672 young people will have again access to computer literacy while more than 6,500 people will have access to public services such paying taxes, getting official documents,etc.The reopening of the centre will also help local people have access to information as far as prices of their products are concerned
