Agri graduates exposed to Biodiverse Agriculture

11 Agri graduates came to VOICE Trust for 8 days exposure. VOICE Team explained about Project # 6265 "Bio diverse Agri Trainings to Youth" organized from October 2010 with help from Friends of Agriculture in India, USA, Europe.

Request was made to them to encourage more Youth to join Agriculture not only as a full time job but also as a valuable contribution for improving Biodiversity in Agriculture for Ecological - Environmental - Economic gains.

VOICE Trust was given an assignment by Department of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu to start an EIDC (Environment Information Dissemination Centre) in Govenrnmetn Higher Secondary School at Siruganur. On September 5, 2017, students of Grade 11 were given a special class on need to continue agriculture for poison - free food, pollution - free environemnt and poverty - free society.

2 Youth have been sent to 1 month Government run training in FFS (Farmer Field School). Though VOICE Trust is going to face financial constrains to pay them from September 16, 2017, still, we decided to include this intervention in order to support Youth who are facing different problems in day to day agriculture. VOICE Team is confident that supports will come from Friends of Agriculture through GlobalGiving.

It is great news that Youth trained with help from friends through GlobalGiving under Project #6265 have started working in farming communities of 24 villages. 240 small farmers have been helped by youth through bio farming interventions.

Happy to inform you about the visit of Arko Banerjee from GlobalGiving visited VOICE Trust work villages on May 20, 2017 and interacted with farmers. He appreciated the strong works by Youth. He encouraged us to go forward.

True, many farmers are commiting suicide because of loss in agriculture due to climate change, increase in cost of production, decrease in yield, marketing blues and economic disasters. But, youth trained under project #6265 have brought in relevant interventions to make agriculture more sustainable through eco friendly and environment protecting techniques. It is heartening to record that no farmer in our work locations have commited suicide this period.

With your continued help we can move forward in this project. Kindly continue to support a youth with your contribution.

Youth trained in Biodiverse Agriculture invited VOICE Trust to convince village people to continue agriculture. During January 2017, historical evidences were presented to village people through participatory rural analysis exercises. Women and Men in villages listened to our presentation attentively and agreed to cooperate with youth in agriculture from July 2017. 180 farming families have declared that they will not sell agriculture lands. This is great victory.

Students of Business Administration of St. Joseph's College in Trichy invited VOICE Trust to explain about agriculture. An exhibition stall was setup and 636 Youth visited the stall and VOICE Team explained to them about successes achieved in Biodiverse Agriculture through Youth involvements. Different models of Nature Centric Agriculture were demonstrated. Followup enquiries have come from 42 students of Business Administration.

VOICE Trust considers these approaches valuable interventions and thanks all supporters who extend help through Global Giving. VOICE Team assures the donors that we will increase activities for convincing more youth to take to Agriculture not only for employments but also as way of life especially for the following declarations.

Agriculture for poison -  free food, pollution - free environment and for poverty - free soceity.
