The project will sensitize men in Buikwe district Uganda about their rights, duties and responsibilities, powers and limitations; to enable them treat their female counterparts and children with dignity they deserve. 1000 men will be reached in this project.
In Uganda the level of men's involvement in all the campaigns against domestic violence prevention is low. Using a scale of one to ten (1-10), men's involvement is at a stagnant level of 2. In Buikwe district where we plan to implement the project, cases of domestic violence are high at 89% and men are pointed at as major perpetuators. This project is targeting to sensitize 1000 men to stop violence against women and children.
We intend to carry out 1 year campaign aimed at raising the level of men's participation in all the campaigns designed to prevent domestic violence in the Country especially Buikwe district. This will be done through holding meetings with stakeholders (Local council leaders, politicians, religious leaders, cultural leaders, police, CBOs in the project area and opinion leaders) to share with them our intentions to reduce on their resistance and win their support as well as conducting training.
The project will sensitize 1000 men on the dangers of domestic violence and men will know how to use their powers responsibly towards everybody in society especially on women and children.
