Women in the rural areas of Zimbabwe bear almost all responsibility for meeting the basic needs of the family yet they are disadvantaged economically and educationally and are systematically denied the resources, information and freedom of action they need to fulfill this responsibility. This situation has been exacerbated by HIV/AIDS which has rapidly become a woman's disease. Women living with AIDS are struggling to support their children and they cant afford the cost of receiving treatment.
Our vision is to restore dignity and hope to disadvantaged women in these rural areas and to to empower them to live up to their full potential. We firmly believe that empowering women strengthens the entire community. Families are healthier and more children attend school.
Sadly we were not able to raise enough funds to continue this project. We need water and a refrigerator. Though we are putting this project on hold until we have the funds - there were a lot of lessons learned and the most important thing is that seven local people received traning on how to grow mushrooms. When we relaunch the project we wont be starting from scratch - we will be working with the seven local trained people to train the women in the village.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our donors for helping us purchase the items we needed during the training. People really benefited from the training.
