Update report from 2014 to October 2018 in PEP’s own 9 sub-districts
- Vitamin-A: 26,269 under-5 children received capsules
- Multivitamins for pregnant and nursing mothers: 18,651 women received 180 tablets each; total 3,357,180 tablets.
- Albendazole: 43,990 under-5 children
In addition, PEP is now working with 23 NGOs in other areas of the country to implement the similar project in their areas. 15 more NGOs will be added to this project in 2019.
Vitamin Angels of Santa Clara, California which provides all the vitamins free of cost for distribution to the poor, has also linked Poverty Eradication Program (PEP) with another organization which provides free nutritious meals to poor pregnant and nursing mothers and under-5 children who are malnourished. This project is in its initial organizational stage but hopefully it will be operative in early 2019.
It may be noted that Bangladesh has one of the highest rates of under-nourishment and malnourishment of children under-5, leading to stunting, wasting and lifelong physical and mental handicaps or even early death.
