Healthcare is a major concern for the destitute elderly in India. Agewell Foundation has identified over 5000 destitute elderly who urgently need healthcare support and proper food. Agewell Foundation will provide a range of healthcare equipment to destitute and bedridden elderly including: wheelchairs, walkers, adult diapers and food packets to destitute and elderly living in slums across India.
Due to the fast declining nature of their physical and mental health, elderly people are the most susceptible to various diseases and health hazards. The main health related problems of the destitute elderly are: physical weakness, kidney related diseases, arthritis and osteoporosis, blood pressure issues, heart problems, cancer, diabetes and prostate enlargement, etc. Due to harsh poverty they could not afford basic healthcare support and forced to live in inhuman condition in old age.
Through this project, Agewell volunteers will provide destitute older people living in Indian slums with healthcare support, which is the basic need of most of the elderly. Agewell Foundation has a team of volunteers, who constantly remain in touch with affected elderly people and provide them all the help possible. Agewell volunteers will procure healthcare equipment and food ration for needy elderly. As per pre-planned schedule project material will be delivered to the pre-identified elderly.
In the long-term, the project will provide destitute elderly and their families more comfortable lives. It will help in increasing the level of awareness among elderly and their family members about the issues to enable the creation of an older persons friendly environment within their community. With the project, health and hygiene condition of destitute will improved. It will also help older persons in increasing their social interaction and remain active in old age.
