Provide healthcare to tribal women of 900 villages
By Pankaj Shah - Project leader
Greetings from SEWA Rural family! We are pleased to present the second report for our project "Provide healthcare to tribal women of 900 villages".
Because of your contributions, 540 women, mostly tribal, have received health services under this project. The health services include safe deliveries, cataract operations, adolescent health awareness sessions and outpatient consultations for gynaecological diseases. We are pleased to inform you that 2 new gynaecologists and ophthalmologists have joined SEWA Rural's team. We are hoping to provide care in more remote areas with help of new doctors and support staff. With help of our donors, we were able to complete renovation of hospital and procure important equipments (such as ultrasound machines etc) over last few months.
Gynecological outreach camps are now occurring every week and are catering to women living in remote areas of south Gujarat who are not able to come to base hospital. Our innovative research work to address much neglected but highly important matter of managing menstrual hygiene among tribal adolescent girls was published in international journal "reproductive health matters" in its June-2013 issues. Above developments to strengthen service provision, capacity building and research will continue to improve care of tribal women and girls.
