Greetings from SEWA Rural family!
We are pleased to present first report for activities performed from 1st December, 2012 to 28th February, 2013 for project “Provide healthcare to tribal women of 900 villages”. 55 contributions amounting total $ 12,792 were received during towards this project so far. Though we are short of total project cost of $ 30,000, we would like to share exciting developments with you about how your contribution has changed so many lives in tribal and remote communities of Gujarat, India.
So far, 540 women, mostly tribal, have received health services under this project. 232 women safely delivered at SEWA Rural hospital. 110 women gained vision by undergoing cataract operation. 13 pregnant women (and their babies) who had complicated deliveries, were saved from life-threatening consequences after receiving care at SEWA Rural hospital. 6 women were cured of serious gynaecological sicknesses by undergoing hysterectomies. 225 women were examined and treated for medical and gynaecological sicknesses during 3 outreach gynec camps organized at Netrang. We have started awareness activities in one village where approximately 15 adolescent girls participated in education session for prevention of anaemia, reproductive health diseases and addiction.
We would like to share a touching story of Kaveri (name changed) who had a complicated pregnancy and was brought to SEWA Rural hospital in serious condition. Kaveri, mother of 18 months old boy and wife of a migrant labourer, was suffering from obstructed labour followed by serious haemorrhage when she arrived at SEWA Rural. She did not have a single prenatal check-up during pregnancy. She had to undergo c-section and was found to have twins who had died in womb due to serious congenital deformities. She received 7 blood transfusions. Due to grace of God and hard-work from whole medical team, Kaveri survived and walked out of the hospital with her 18 month old son. Without the health-care she got due to your support, Kaveri’s daughter would have lost her son. Your contribution has given Kaveri a new life.
Thank you for helping us make lives of 540 women better such as Kaveri. We hope to continue our efforts with your continued support.
