From Bello, a municipality located north of the city of Medellín, Maihcol came to our Children's Hospital, a young man, he's 15 years old and he's a little shy and introverted, but very intelligent.
Maihcol has a type 1 diabetes, a disease that indicates that the level of glucose is very high in the blood. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce insulin, a hormone that helps glucose enter the cells to provide energy.
His symptoms appeared 4 years ago, when he began losing of appetite and having constant dizziness, so his mother decided to bring him to our Hospital where his disease was diagnosed and treatment began. From that moment on, Maihcol has carried out his entire process with our professionals and specialists who take care of his well-being.
He is a fairly quiet young man, and in the midst of his shyness he says he is very grateful to all the staff at the Hospital, as he says he has received very good treatment from them and that they have saved his life many times.
Maihcol has been hospitalized for a week and a half and hopes to recover very soon, to return to his school classes now virtual because of the COVID emergency. He is currently in the seventh grade and likes to read and learn new things.
