This Project will procure an Ultra sound scan, which will be used to help midwives in Rural areas of Western Uganda, to detect and diagnose abnormal presentation among pregnant women. This will help Midwives determine referral process and plan in order to have a safer delivery in a Hospital. The scan machine will be installed in YAWE Foundation mobile clinic bus, where rural women will be reached with diagnostic services right from their local health facilities in rural areas of Western Uganda

According to Women and children first a UK based charity and the reports from Ministry of health Uganda. Uganda is one of the ten Countries with the highest maternal, new born and under 5 mortality in the world, for instance in 2013 alone 5,900 women died during pregnancy and child birth and 35,000 babies died in their first month. The most at risk women are those living in rural areas where access to skilled birth attendants is limited and where midwives are ill equipped to detect abnormality

Since 2014 YAWE Foundation has been operating a mobile clinic bus, to reach out to rural population with the much needed health care. In a bid to Increase the number of women receiving ante-natal and post-natal care and the number of women giving birth in health facilities. We are mobilizing men and women through community based women groups. We offer antenatal services with midwives at lower health centres three, Ultra sound scan is a necessary equipment missing in our mobile clinic bus .

Long-Term Impact

It is hoped that once YAWE foundation has acquired the Ultra sound scan machine it will be permanently installed in YAWE mobile clinic Van, and this will offer the opportunity for women to receive diagnostic services during every YAWE foundation outreach with the bus in rural areas. Our sensitization will also increase knowledge and practice of rural women in utilization of ante-natal services. and delivering in health facilities which will reduce the maternal and child mortality in the area.
