This project will improve the health & hygiene of 500 less fortunate adolescent girls in Amritsar district of Punjab in India. Health services and medical check-ups will be provided for a period of three months.
Especially in rural areas, there is a lack of information about female health and hygiene issues among the adolescent girls. Most adolescent girls seek information from their peers who do not know much better. Lack of appropriate and adequate sanitary facilities prevents girls from attending colleges and schools. Many young girls become anemic due to menorrhagia and unavailability of resources to tackle the issue, they face social embarrassment and as a result they also quit school.
LKS aims to resolve this issue by organizing camps on personal hygiene , sanitation practices among girls in the lowest economic strata. Measures will also be taken to collaborate with other NGO's working in the area for woman empowerment , with their aid we can achieve our objectives more effectively and expeditiously. We will provide health services to 500 girls for a period of three months which includes - Blood Tests, Folic Acid tablets, Iron & Calcium tablets and sanitary napkins.
To enhance the status of women and girls by promoting menstrual hygiene management. To sensitize girls and women on safe and environmental friendly manner of disposal of used sanitary napkins. To integrate and make network with various organizations engaged in promotion of health and hygiene practice. To abolish the social stigma and taboos related to health, menstrual hygiene and sanitation through intensive information and education.
