You support has raised US$5,437, which will buy five more computers and additional solar power to help struggling schoolchildren in Ho, Volta Region, pass their computer exams and progress to secondary school.

‘I can create a shortcut and open an email programme. I also have confidence in moving the mouse.  The books borrowed from the library have improved my reading skills.’ – Ophelia of Klefe Achatime Junior High School.

Your support doubles Volta Regional Library’s capacity to help the children. Until now, the mobile library has been travelling to five schools once a week with only five computers. In just six months (October 2012 to May 2013), and with only five computers, the library –

  • Conducted 105 computer lessons, reaching 215 children and increasing their potential to pass the Basic Education Certificate Exam which determines their eligibility to enter secondary school.
  • Taught 119 pupils how to research the internet and use e-mail. The children are now e-mailing each other and their teachers.
  • Won recognition across the municipality, receiving requests to expand the service to include more schools.

‘In the past, my students did not have the opportunity to relate to computers. Now they can see everything in real terms because they are able to interact with computers.  They are also learning through educational games, and this helps build their skills and talents. Now they can handle computers confidently!’ – Mawuli Amenya, computer teacher at Ziavi Lume Methodist Junior High School told the library.
