The overall goal of this HOOG campaign is to ensure the effective and efficient administration of social grants by SASSA in fulfillment of its mandate. The objective will be achieved through focusing on the national payment system by ensuring that grant beneficiaries receive the full value of their grant; and the new SASSA grant payment system protects the constitutional rights of grant beneficiaries. The outcomes are that unauthorised and unlawful deductions are stopped immediately.
Social Assistance remains the only regular form of secure income for many poor households and an important means of poverty reduction. Socio-economic rights have to be demanded and once secured, vigilantly protected. SASSA's inaction with the new contract post March 2018 has further placed grant beneficiaries' wellbeing and survival at risk, with unauthorised, fraudulent and unlawful deductions continuing unabated from their SASSA bank accounts with inadequate recourse.
The Black Sash intends to use the strategies as outlined in the three year strategic plan for this particular programme (Advocacy in Partnership) which include public awareness and rights education, citizen based monitoring ( monitoring of government service delivery facilities) and developing case studies, advocacy, and legal action. We are focusing on the strategy of Increasing Public Awareness through the development of a documentary as well as radio segments.
The overall goal of this HOOG campaign is that grants are paid in full without deductions and debit orders and that grant beneficiaries confidential data is protected.
