The Green Team is a job-training program that provides urban, at risk youth with a stipend to participate in maintenance and improvement projects in park stewardship and urban agriculture. In 2011, Groundwork crew members worked with the National Park Service to gain sustainable agriculture skills in the Boston Harbor Islands. They learned how to identify invasive plants, practiced using and maintaining landscape power tools and hand tools, and participated in life-skills building workshops. The 2011 Green Team also began construction on the South Street Farm, Somerville's first Urban Farm, to be completed in Spring 2012.
Short Term Goals:
The short term goal of the Green Team is to provide employment and job training to urban, at risk youth.
Long Term Goals:
The long term goal of the Green Team is that the youth enrolled in the program find sustainable employment and become contributing members of the Somerville community.
