As access to healthy food diminishes, our families are especially vulnerable to going hungry or developing health problems from the foods they can afford. Fresh fruit and and vegetables shouldn't be considered luxury items. Our program ensures that 4,800 low-income clients have access to a consistent and local source of fresh produce.
For over six years Hidden Villa has partnered with the Community Services Agency's Food and Nutrition Center (FNC) in a program called Healthy Food, Healthy Families. Twice weekly, we harvest fresh vegetables and fruits and bring them to a market-style food pantry that serves over 4,800 of our low-income neighbors. Through this program, Hidden Villa donates over 12,000 lbs of fresh produce a year to people in need.
This program allows families and individuals to reduce their household expenses to meet other critical needs. According to the Community Services Agency, the FNC serves over 4,800 clients a year. 100% of these clients are low-income. 50% are children or seniors over 65. Through the Healthy Food, Healthy Families partnership these individuals and families are ensured a reliable source of healthy produce, and are invited to connect to the source of their food at our farm for a Harvest Festival.
