Additional Info:

GlobeMed is a national student-run 501(c)(3) non-profit that aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity. GlobeMed achieves this by promoting global health education and working with grassroots partner organizations both domestically and abroad. Our values in GlobeMed serve as a basis for every aspect of our work. As a group, we envision a world in which health is a universal human right. Access to health must be realized through every facet of society from effectual public systems to proper living conditions.

At the University of Rochester, we believe that global health equity is something that everyone can support, regardless of profession or education.  Our GlobeMed chapter is primarily comprised of undergraduate students brought together by our passion to eradicate social injustice, one step at a time, in a way that is both sustainable and empowering.

GlobeMed’s National Office, headquartered in Evanston, IL provides ongoing support with our planned projects and helps our chapter as a whole. The National Office also organizes national and regional events to build the GlobeMed community and to develop leadership skills among the members of the 50+ university chapters throughout the United States. Moreover, the National Office provides a global health curriculum that chapters teach their members throughout the academic year. This year, all 50+ chapters are studying human rights. Through this curriculum, students discern their roles in global health and poverty and form the academic foundation necessary to serve as effective partners.

Our partner, Kallpa Iquitos, is an association that works to help youth from underprivileged backgrounds in Iquitos, Peru, to improve their quality of life by strengthening access to resources such as healthcare and education as well as empowering the community through interactive programming solutions. Kallpa strives for family and community participation, sustainable strategies, and the ability to propose policy changes in health and education. Together, the chapter and partner organization implement specific health and development projects, communication on every aspect from initial design to monitoring and evaluation.
