After a very successful return to San Marcos, Cape CARES Board of Directors and volunteers are preparing for a full return to both clinics in 2022! We will need your help this giving season to ensure that we can; properly restock our clinics with pharmaceuticals and supplies, hire local hondurans to help with patient flow, and provide culturally conscious medical and dental care free of charge to our patients in Honduras.
Access to health and dental care has always been limited in Honduras, however, due to COVID-19 and the influx of hospitalizations, access became nearly impossible for the past year and a half. Especially for those who have a difficult time traveling long distances for health or financial reasons. For most of Cape CARES patients, our brigades are their only access to healthcare for the year, making our presence more important than ever.
After being away from our clinics for 2 years, Cape CARES returned to San Marcos and had what most volunteers called, "the most successful brigade of their Cape CARES career." Gearing up for 2022, our first task will be to return to Los Encinitos. We will, once again, extend our brigade by a few days to maximize the amount of patients we see for the week and try to see the most vulnerable patients in the communities. After such a success in San Marcos, our team is very excited to be back in LE.
For the first time, Cape CARES hired local town's people to work directly with the clinic team in San Marcos. They were vital to our operation and safe functioning of the clinic during the Covid-19 pandemic. These awesome men and women were tasked with maintaining social distancing of the patients and crowd control, proper mask etiquette, patient movement through the clinic and organization of medical records. Cape CARES has decided to continue with this practice for future brigades.
