We support children from 7 to 18 years old with a caring responsibility for a family member. This could be anything from a Mum with MS, a Dad with bipolar or a brother with Autism. Because of this Young Carers can miss out on a regular childhood. This project will help give Young Carers the opportunity to be a child and have a break from their responsibilities by giving them fun days out.
Young Carers (YCs) can miss out on a regular childhood and become very lonely having to stay at home rather than go out to play with friends. Often because of the health problems of their parents, family income will be lower meaning there's no spare money for treats and trips, and sometimes even the basics the rest of us take for granted. This is where we step in to try and give YCs the opportunity to be a child and to help families access services that can make their lives easier as well.
We provide YCs with the opportunity to be a child & have the same life chances as their peers. We deliver targeted work to alleviate the care burden & equip YCs with improved coping skills. Our activities tackle social isolation & encourage YCs to expand friendship/support networks. We now support over 220 YCs through: One-to-one support, School and group work; Trips and activities giving much needed time out; Family support. Your donation would help us give more YCs a well-deserved break.
While we can't stop YCs having to be YCs, we can make it easier for them to cope, & give them the support they need to have the best chance to transition to a productive, happy adult life. We can - Cut down on YC levels stress, depression & self-harm; Tackle social isolation & loneliness; Improve confidence; Give opportunities to experience activities without financial impact on their family; Widen YC life experiences & the chances open to them.
