Out of 100 children born without immune system each year, 70 will die before five years old due to lack of medical diagnostic. Primary Immunodeficiencies led to serious infections in children, like pneumonias, and first contact medical personnel cannot identify the cause. This project will give training to 5000 medical doctors in 8 countries in Latin America to allow them to identify these diseases early in time giving children the opportunity and hope to survive with adequate treatment.
In Latin America, 1 out of 8000 children is born with a Primary Immunodeficiency (PI). Of these, 70 out of 100 will die before they get a diagnostic, because these diseases are not well known by medical doctors. Families desperately search the diagnostic for their kids and when they finally get it, it turns out the kids are very deteriorated of all the infections they underwent and even with treatment their quality of life is poor.
This project will train 5000 medical doctors in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Brasil. It will also raise awareness through social media about the Warning Signs for Primary Immunodeficiencies to facilitate families suspect and identify them.
Medical doctors will be able to early diagnose children born without immune system, families will suspect and identify the signs, so in the long run: -Deaths of children with this disease will decrease. -It will prevent disabilities in children with PI caused by recurrent serious infections before diagnostic. -These children would survive by getting proper treatment and grow with health, better quality of life, achieving their life projects.
