If people know about a problem, they're halfway to solving it. That is why raising awareness of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is so important. Millions of people over age 50 are at risk for losing their vision.
Your support helped the Macular Degeneration Partnership (MDP) mark International AMD Week this September, with special online reports and useful posts on Facebook, as well as several presentations and support groups for seniors and those with AMD. The message of AMD Week is simple - get an eye exam!
We tend to take our vision for granted, especially if our eyes are not "bothering" us in any way. But only a dilated eye exam can uncover problems like glaucoma and early macular degeneration. Just today, a caller to our "warm line" remarked that she valued her sight more than any other physical ability - and wished she had paid more attention to it earlier.
Want to know the latest on age-related macular degeneration? There is lots of news coming up from the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Retina Subspecialty Day in November. You can get daily reports directly from the meeting by subscribing to AMD Update, our free email newsletter. MDP will be covering all the presentations on existing treatments, research and emerging therapies.
Project Reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you will get an e-mail when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports via e-mail without donating or by subscribing to this project's RSS feed.
