We strongly believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and can create a better future for children, families and communities. We promote education in the Yonibana community by providing scholarships to economically disadvantaged students. When you sponsor a student, you invest in the future of Sierra Leone, one child at a time.
Roughly 80% of parents are illiterate and characterized by abject poverty which makes it difficult to send their children to school. Students spend most of their time after school working on farms to help pay for their schooling. These children tend to drop out of school early because the cost of an education is high compared with the income of families who are poor.
The monies that families would have to pay for student's school fees can be allocated toward other necessities or provide an opportunity for a sibling to attend school. Students will be equipped to enter the workforce, training program or university.
By relieving families of this financial obligation, students are more likely to improve their academic performance because they are able to apply more focus to their academics. MAP also seeks to enhance students' learning experience by providing, learning tools and external instructional support.
